Load management helps balance EV charging with the rest of a site's electricity use, so both can run at the same time without overloading the incoming supply or tripping the connection.
Why It Matters
A home, depot, or car park's grid connection has a fixed maximum capacity. Chargers are rarely the only thing drawing power on that circuit — lighting, HVAC, kitchens, workshop equipment, and other chargers all share it. Without load management, a site either has to size its grid connection for every load running at once (expensive, and often more than the DNO will offer quickly), or risk tripping the supply on a busy day.
Load management solves this by sharing available capacity intelligently across everything connected, rather than giving each charger a fixed, unshared allocation.
Static vs. Dynamic Load Management
Load management comes in two forms. Static load management splits total capacity into fixed shares, set once at installation and left alone. Dynamic load management (see dynamic load balancing) measures actual site demand continuously and reallocates power in real time, which fits more charging capacity onto the same connection because it accounts for the fact that not every load runs at full power simultaneously.

Is load management the same as dynamic load balancing?
Dynamic load balancing is one specific technique within the broader category of load management: it recalculates power allocation continuously in real time. Static load management, by contrast, splits capacity into fixed shares set once at installation and doesn't adapt as conditions change.
Can load management avoid a grid connection upgrade?
Often, yes. Because load management shares available power across chargers and other site loads rather than reserving a fixed block per charger, a site can typically install more charging bays on its existing grid connection than a one-charger-one-circuit layout would allow.
